Interested in learning more about Indigenous perspectives, oral history, and the history of treaties? Join Anishinaabe historian and guest speaker Dr. Alan Ojiig Corbiere, in-person on Wednesday, November 5th, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Dr. Corbiere will speak through the words of Mississauga Chief Wabbicommicott and share the history of the 1764 Treaty of Niagara. You can learn more about Dr. Corbiere and the event here.
This presentation will explore the exchange of wampum belts and speeches during, prior to, and after the Treaty of Niagara, giving an understanding of the treaty relationship between the Mississaugas, Western Nations (Ojibwa, Odawa, Sauk, Fox, Ho-chunk, Nipissing), and the British.
